About Us

          The University of Calicut is the largest University in Kerala. Established in the year 1968, it is the second university to be set up in Kerala. The University aims to nurture excellence in education and research in its catchment areas of Northern Kerala, historically consigned to the periphery of Kerala’s academic map. The University lays its emphasis on fostering quality human resource and promoting productive research that benefit both local communities and wider humanity.

           The University campus, located at Tenhipalam, 24 km south of Calicut is the main hub of academic activities. Situated here besides the 28 postgraduate teaching and research departments are: the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, the Administration Block, Pareeksha Bhavan, School of Distance Education, Academic Staff College, Educational and Multimedia Research Centre, Computer Centre, and the University Library. The departments on the campus include Arabic, Botany, Biotechnology, Centre for Women Studies, Chemistry, Commerce & Management Studies, Computer Science, Education, English, Hindi, History, West Asian Studies, Mass Communication & Journalism, Life Science, Library and Information Science, Life Long Learning & Extension, Malayalam and Kerala Studies, Mathematics, Nano Science & Technology, Philosophy, Physics, Physical Education, Psychology, Russian & Centre for Comparative Literature, Sanskrit, School of Folklore Studies, Statistics, and Zoology. 
Our Department
     “The principal goal of education is to create men who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done. The second goal of education is to form minds that can be critical, can verify and not accept everything that are offered” (Piaget 1964). Department of Education tries its level best to achieve these goals of Education. 
Mission 
       To prepare post graduates and researchers to become competent teachers and teacher educators at different levels of Education.

      The department was started in the year 1974. Prof. C L Anand was the founding professor. He has worked as Vice-Chancellor of Rajeev Gandhi University, Ita Nagar, Pro-Vice- Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi and North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. Department of Education, University of Calicut has launched several pioneering courses, made valuable contribution in bringing about reforms in university examination and developed several psychological and educational tests. The two pioneering courses offered in the early years were: Master of College Teaching and Master of Education Master of College Teaching and Master (a vacation course) and Self- financing Course in M.Ed. (Tech). This department has played a critical role in the implementation of the examination reforms program by designing and developing question banks for pre degree and degree courses. The examination reforms program of the university served as a model for several other universities.  

About Reform

It was the 2009 batch of research scholars who coined and developed the title ‘Reform’. As the first step, an executive meeting was conducted on 13.07.2009 by the teachers and research scholars. Eight members were present in the meeting. The discussion mainly focused on the inauguration of Reform and it was decided that it would be done by VC.

The next executive meeting discussed the orientation of research report writing and paper presentation on 10.09.2009. The resource persons were Muhammed Unni Alias Musthafa, Noushad P. P and Dr. K. Abdul Gafoor.

The meeting conducted on 26.07.2010 evaluated the previous years’ programmes. New office bearers were elected. It was concluded with the decision that each research scholars should pay a subscription fee Rs. 50.

Present Executive Committee is formed in July,2019 for the Academic Year 2019-2020.Due to pandemic situation,the same committee is in charge temporarily till the new Committee is formed.The new executive committee will be formed soon.
